A Patchogue mom who works at Roast Coffee and Tea Trading Company needs support from the community after recently suffering a stroke.

Desiree Vermeulen, an assistant manager at the 41 E. Main St. coffeehouse, is going to be out of work during her recovery. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help her support herself and daughter during this time.

The page, created by Tiffany Rivera on June 24th, currently has raised $2,910 out of a $4,000 goal. Residents that have donated are also leaving several get-well messages for Vermeulen.

Vermeulen’s mother, Bonnie Vermeulen-Kirchmer, wrote on Facebook that Desiree thanks the community for their support so far and that she is working hard toward her recovery.

“Knowing that there are so many people out there with genuine compassion has helped us both, to fight on,” Bonnie said.

Rivera, who is a general manager at Roast, said that the coffeehouse is planning a fundraiser for Desiree on July 25th. That event will involve selling raffles that people can buy to win gift cards from local businesses. Additional details on the fundraiser will be coming soon, she said.

Donations of any amount are being accepted for Vermeulen. To visit the page, click here.
