Donating blood is a simple way to help someone in need, and this Thursday Patchogue-Medford Library will help make it easy for anyone to give.
The Community Blood Drive will take place at the library’s main building from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., during which anyone can either walk in or make an appointment to donate.
Anyone interested in donating should be between ages 17 to 75 (or age 16 with written consent from a parent or legal guardian), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health that day and bring a valid signature or photo ID. Donors should also eat a low-fat meal and drink plenty of fluids before coming to the event. For more requirements, check out the New York Blood Center’s website for the full list of restrictions or call 1-800-688-0900 with other related medical questions.
While anyone can arrive to the drive to donate, appointments can be scheduled either by calling the library at 631-654-4700 ext. 248 or by visiting the New York Blood Center website to make an appointment online.
Those attending can expect to fill out a medical form, go through a brief screening process, donate and afterward receive snacks as well as refreshments. The actual donation process takes about 10 minutes (Tip: If you are nervous about the donation, bring your phone and jump on the library’s Wi-Fi connection to use the internet as an easy distraction).
This event is being sponsored by the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, the Pilot Club of Patchogue, the Rotary Club of Patchogue as well as Patchogue-Medford Library.
