National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations (NABCO)
Extensive clearinghouse of breast cancer resources, gathered from over 370 organizations nationwide. Information includes fact sheets, questions and answers, myths and facts, all of which may be printed out and distributed, NABCO News, press releases and position papers. The "Trial News" section lists brief summaries of reviewed and approved clinical trials from the National Cancer Institute's protocol query database (PDQ); additional information on clinical trials, eligibility, phases, contact persons, and a breast cancer trial directory are included. National support groups, additional Internet links, and a bulletin board of worldwide conferences and meetings are presented.

National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC)
A grass-roots advocacy effort in the fight against breast cancer, the NBCC, through this website, presents legislative activities such as, bills introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, and Congressional members supporting such bills. Information is provided on Project LEAD, a science education program designed for breast cancer advocates, subjects taught, course locations and an application form. Details of a clinical trials project are outlined, focusing on legislative, educational and industry participation.

This site provides information about CAM to health care providers and the public. Talking Books Plus
This site, created by the Talking Books Plus Department of the Suffolk Cooperative Library System (Bellport, NY), describes the many free library services for Suffolk County residents with disabilities. Among other programs, Talking Books Plus provides "talking" books (books and magazines) that have been recorded by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, a unit of the Library of Congress. This site further includes other public library services, such as videotapes with descriptive narrative, high tech equipment for people with visual impairments and a TTY loan program. Links to disability resources on the Internet, speech-friendly search engines, electronic books on the Web, and other library services for people with disabilities are also provided. Merck Manual of Medical Information -- Home Edition
The home edition of the the latest release of the venerable Merck Manual is now available online. This site presents in-depth medical information in plain English. Two versions are available, a plain text edition and the new multimedia interactive version. The interactive version includes illustrations, video and animation clips, and a pronunciation guide. The interactive version may require you to download additional software to view the multimedia content.

Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy
The electronic version of the Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy 17th ed., the most widely-used medical text in the world. Medical disorders and current therapies are described in detail, symptoms are discussed, clinical procedures and laboratory test are outlined, and clinical pharmacology principles and advances are presented. National Organization for Rare Disorders: Search the NORD Databases

MEDLINEplus Drug Information
A guide to more than 9,000 prescription and over-the-counter medications provided by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) in the USP DI Advice for the Patient.

RxList: The Internet Drug Index
Search this database of prescription and over-the-counter drugs currently on the U.S. market or close to approval. Convert generic drug names to brand names, and vice-versa; find the 200 most-frequently prescribed drugs in America; discover interactions among categories of drugs or between particular drugs. An important feature of this site is the ability to also search by tablet/capsule imprint code to identify unknown pills. Entries include: drug description, action, use, contraindications, warning, precautions, adverse reactions, dosage and administration. Site uses "fuzzy search"("sounds like") techniques and also offers keyword or alphabetic access.

Suffolk County (NY) Prescription Drug Cost Comparison
This comparative survey displays the price, from most competitive to least competitive, of the 25 prescription drugs most used by senior citizens. The survey will be updated four times per year. The results from the present survey are current to March 15, 2002. Participation by pharmacies is voluntary. The survey requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader software to display.

Brain Awareness Collection
A comprehensive bibliography created by the Pilot Club of Patchogue to promote awareness of brain-related disorders, and to improve the lives of those affected by such disorders.Through generous grants from Senator Caesar Trunzo and Assmblywoman Patricia Eddington, the Club has been able to donate books and films, with a focus on brain-related disease and disabilities to the Patchogue-Medford Library.

Created by medical professionals, this is a comprehensive search engine for Internet medical and health-related sites. Subject areas include allied health, computers in health and medicine, emergency care and services, managed care, men's health, women's health, to name a few. Arrangement is by subject, but features also include keyword searching within entire site, or for reviewed sites, only.

HealthWeb
Developed in 1994 by medical librarians and health professionals of the Committee for Institutional Cooperation(a consortium of leading Midwest medical institutions), this site provides a wealth of selective, evaluated health-related Internet resources. Each medical institution is responsible for a particular subject area(s), and coverage is geared to health care professionals,as well as consumers. Search by keyword, phrase, subject or institution.

HealthFinder
Designed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this is a gateway site for online consumer health information. Resources from the Federal government, state and local agencies, not-for-profit organizations, and universities are included. Search for online publications and electronic documents, or browse a list of online publications catalogs; choose from an alphabetical list of specific health and human services topics (adoption, domestic violence, environmental health, transplants, etc.). Locate toll-free numbers or information clearinghouses; browse a listing of online health and medical journals, electronic public service announcements, audio/video files, and current and past research efforts for specific illnesses/diseases. Provides links to public, academic and state libraries, as well as national medical libraries.

InteliHealth Dental
The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine provides the information for this site covering all aspects of dental care and health. Basic anatomy of the mouth and teeth, discussion of dental and cosmetic procedures and children's dental care are among the many topics covered. Links are provided to a medical dictionary and a database of medicines used in dentistry. There is also a link to submit your own question to a professional dentist.

Created by the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, this site offers practical, yet, in-depth coverage of a variety of health issues and information, geared especially for the consumer. The Lyme Disease Network is a non-profit foundation comprised of the National LymeNet and the Lyme Disease Network of New Jersey. Professional Misconduct and Physician Discipline
Search alphabetically for physicians who have been subject to disciplinary actions in New York State since 1994.
