Affirmative Action and Diversity Project
An academic site presenting diverse opinions regarding affirmative action topics. Resources include articles with analyses, policy documents, current legislative updates, pending state and federal court cases, and an annotated bibliography of research and teaching materials. Created at the University of California - Santa Barbara, the site also focuses heavily on diversity issues in California, including the recent Proposition 209. Links are provided to other affirmative action sites.

Multicultural Paths: Other Sites
An extensive site developed by a "Multicultural Pavilion" of teachers and students at the University of Virginia's Curry School of Education. Provides links to general categories, including language, culture, education and organizations; ethnic-specific resources, namely African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic/Latino and Native American. Access resources by cultural identifier, i.e.., ability, gender, religion and by special topic, i.e.., hate groups, women's history, etc.. Subscribe to the Multicultural Education listserv, search its archives, and browse the Teacher's Corner of resources for K-12 teachers of all subjects.

Queens Directory of Immigrant-Serving Agencies
A directory of agencies in the metropolitan New York area, which offer services for immigrants in over fifty languages. Search by agency name, service offered, ethnic/cultural group, language spoken, keyword, and more.

Diversity Web
Housed at the Association of American Colleges and Universities, this site contains campus, local, national and international materials relating to age, class, disability, ethnicity, gender, national origin, religion and sexual orientation. Includes diversity initiatives at educational and governmental institutions and organizations; offers information on Affirmative Action statements and policies from institutions around the country, and provides a dictionary guide to specific terms and their usage within the diversity community.

African-American Mosaic
This site provides a sampler of the kinds of materials and themes covered by the publication, The African American Mosaic: A Library of Congress Resource Guide for the Study of Black History and Culture. The Mosaic represents the first Library-wide resource guide to the African American collections within the Library of Congress. It spans nearly 500 years of the Black experience in the Western hemisphere and includes books, periodicals, prints, photographs, music, film, and recorded sound. This web site explores four of the many areas covered by the Mosaic: Colonization, Abolition, Migrations, and the WPA.

African-American Perspectives: Pamphlets from the Daniel A.P. Murray Collection 1818-1907
This noted pamphlet collection from the Library of Congress includes the writing of Frederick Douglass, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Booker T. Washington, and others. It represents a diverse, panoramic overview of African-American history and culture. Search by keyword, or browse by author or subject. Also included are a timeline of African-American history 1852-1925, a selected bibliography of African-American history 1820-1920, and the Progress of a People collection which offers a biographical sketch of Daniel A.P. Murray, as well as a "virtual" 1898 National Afro-American Council meeting.

African-American Web Connection
This site was developed to "provide a doorway to Afrocentric web resources." Information includes art, authors, businesses, entertainment, history, organizations, publications and the largest collection of African-American church links on the web. Also provides an annotated listing of African-American and non-Afrocentric web resources and an extensive Pages for Kids link.

The Black Population in the United States
From the U.S. Census Bureau, this site presents recent Current Population Survey publications, which include selected social and economic characteristics such as, income, education, age, sex, and more. Issues regarding the 2000 census (changes in the guidelines for classifying race and ethnic data) are examined; population working papers and Federal Register Notices are provided, as are links to related topics. Please note: many documents are in Portable Document Format (PDF) and require Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them.

Howard University Libraries - African-American Studies
A rich, detailed site providing both popular and scholarly links. Subjects covered range from affirmative action, communications, demographics, military science, politics, research, science and technology, with strong emphasis on biography, education and history resources.

MOLIS: Minority Online Information Center
Search this database of over 220 minority institutions, with direct links to Historically-Black Colleges and Universities, Tribally-Controlled Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions and other Minority Institutions. Designed to offer complete and current educational, research and other service information on all Minority Institutions, MOLIS provides details on the institutions' research centers interests, facilities, faculty profiles, scholarship and fellowship information, and federal opportunity information.

Asia Society
Founded in 1956 by John D. Rockefeller 3rd, this is a nonprofit, nonpartisan educational institution which seeks to foster an understanding of Asia and communication between Asians and Americans. Links include: Store - extensive selection of English-language books on Asia; Roundtables provide a forum for discussing and debating issues in the arts, education, business and economics, politics and society; Publications include books, reports and catalogues; Arts and Culture presents exhibits, Shockwave movie clips, artistic activity of Asians and Asian Americans; Education offers programs, informational services to teachers, students and schools throughout the United States and a link to AskAsia, the award-winning K-12 educational website.

Asian Studies WWW Virtual Library
A comprehensive directory of scholarly, Asian-related information on the Internet. Developed in 1994 at the Australian National University, this site is a collaborative project involving "virtual editors", with individual areas of specialization, around the world. Focus is the Asian continent as a whole, as well as individual Asian regions, countries and territories. Mailing lists, electronic journals, newsletters and databases, and catalogs and conferences are included. Access additional links, by region or country/territory.

Spanish-language version of Cable News Network (CNN) site. Offers current stories from around the world, with links to Latin American, United States, Canadian and other international sources. Coverage also includes economy, sports, culture, health, technology, weather, and more.

Handbook of Latin American Studies
Created by historian Lewis Hanke in 1935 and updated by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress, this is considered the premiere bibliography on Latin America in the world. Published annually in print form and updated monthly in an electronic format, the bibliography contains evaluative annotations by leading Latin Americanists throughout the world. Disciplines covered include anthropology, art, economics, electronic resources, geography, government and politics, international relations, literature, music, philosophy and sociology. Site also provides links to the Library of Congress Hispanic Reading Room and additional Internet resources.

Hispanic Reading Room
The Hispanic Reading Room, located at the Library of Congress, serves as the primary access point for research relating to those parts of the world encompassing the geographical areas of the Caribbean, Latin America, and Iberia; the indigenous cultures of those areas; and peoples throughout the world historically influenced by Luso-Hispanic heritage, including Latinos in the U.S., and peoples of Portuguese or Spanish heritage in Africa, Asia, and Oceania.

The Center for World Indigenous Studies
This non-profit research and education organization is "dedicated to a wider understanding and appreciation of the ideas and knowledge of indigenous peoples, and the social, economic and political realities of indigenous nations..." The Center for Traditional Medicine offers advanced healing arts and sciences and clinical training, The Fourth World Institute offers advanced studies in government, geopolitics, history, philosophy, culture and the environment of Fourth World Peoples. Current research is highlighted, including Self-Government Process Evaluation Project, Right Wing and Anti-Indian Network Project, and the New Age Indians Study, to name a few.

Index of Native American Resources on the Internet
An extensive, searchable index with links to culture, language, history, health, education and indigenous knowledge resources. A Line in the Sand is a link devoted to cultural property and cultural sensitivity issues, including sovereignty, legal resources and responses from the indigenous peoples. Language resources offer dictionary and grammar tools; oral and written histories are also presented. A large part of the site is dedicated to art resources, namely museums, galleries, exhibits, and artists. Job listings, internships and fellowships are provided, as are activist links, organizations, and electronic texts.

NativeWeb
This site explores the identities, traditions and cultures of the world's indigenous or aboriginal peoples. The nations of Latin America, North America, Oceania, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Arctic are represented. Resources are arranged by subject, nation or geographic location. The Community Center includes message boards, job listings, events, e-mail lists and news sources. Tracing your Roots provides Internet resources on genealogy; Legal Issues discusses religious freedom, prison rights, land title issues, etc.. and the Electronic Store lists Native-owned enterprises which focus on Native issues.

Extensive, searchable index of language-related resources on the Internet. Languages and cultures range from Basque > Estonian > Greek > Italian > Mayan > Sardinian > Urdu, to name but a few. Resources include: online language lessons, translating dictionaries, native literature, translation services, language schools, software, and more.

Offers links to free web sources for learning basic Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, Chinese, Japanese, and Russian.

Islamic Studies: Islam, Arabic, Religion
This page contains a wealth of links to information on Islam on the web. Prepared by a professor of religion at the University of Georgia the page has links to information on the Qur'an, the various branches of Islam, Islamic history and culture, and the Arabic language. There is also considerable information on the events of September 11, 2001 and the Muslim community's reaction.

Web of On-Line Dictionaries
Created at Bucknell University, this site presents more than 400 dictionaries in 130 languages are presented here. An effort has been made to link only to free dictionaries, but some subscription-based publications, if deemed "rare or unusually well-executed" are also included. On-line grammars and lesson plans for many languages are also provided.

Modern Language Assocation Language Map
Uses data from the 2000 United States census to display the locations and numbers of speakers of thirty languages and three groups of less commonly spoken languages in the United States. Illustrates the concentration of language speakers in zip codes and counties.
