What is available in the Children's Room?
We have many resources available to patrons of the Library
including books, CD's, videos, & DVD's, computer software,
and audio books for children. We also have a large Parenting
Collection covering an array from childbirth, nutrition, learning
disabilities. Our Professional Collection helps educational
personnel and students organize lesson plans and address
different grade levels.
We have three public access computers available to work
on school projects. There is a Toddler Area filled with
board books, toys, blocks, puzzles to promote motor skills,
and encourage creativity with parents/caregivers.

1. What programs do you have for infants?
Baby Games - 3 - 11 months with a parent/caregiver.
It's Never Too Early: Babies & Books - for parents
with children 2 to 11 months. Learn of the best in
board books, rhymes and songs in this introduction
to literacy.
2. What are some of the programs available for parents
of young children?
New Mothers's Discussion Group - For Mothers and their
infants ages 2 - 11 months. Discuss the joys of mother-
hood.
Mother of Toddlers Discussion Group - For mothers
of toddlers, 12-23 months. Talk with other mothers
about this new phase of parenting.
Mothers of Twos Discussion Group - For mothers,
23-25 months. Continue discussions started during
the toddler years and move into the terrific twos.
3. What programs do have for toddlers?
The following programs are offered with
a parent/caregiver:
*Games for Ones - For children 12-23 months.
*Games for Twos - For children 24-35 months.
*Participate in age-appropriate activities to
stimulate physical and mental development.
Parachute Play - For children 18-35 months.
Join us for songs, dances and games with our
parachute.
Parent/Toddler Workshop- Two age groups
available for 12-23 months or 24-35 months.
The play-group format of this 5-week program
encourages parent and child to play together
in a variety of learning areas.
An Introduction to Mother Goose - For children
2-24 months with a parent/caregiver. A program
based on familiar nursery rhymes and songs.
Summer Play Group - For children 18-35 months.
Informal play includes an art experience and a
circle time.
4. I am thinking of homeschooling my child. What
resources are available in the Children's &
Parents' Services?
Resources for Homeschoolers - An introduction
to the our department will include a tour, a
discussion of available Library materials and a
craft for the children.
5. My child needs assistance with his homework.
Is there anyone qualified to help him with his
assignments?
Starting in the beginning of the school year in October,
Homework Help is available on selected Wednesdays,
and Saturdays with a certified teacher for elementary
students.
6. What are some of the programs available for older
children?
Book Time with a Dog - For children in grades 1-6.
Pick a book and practice reading aloud to one of our
specially trained and certified therapy dogs.
In addition, many other programs are scheduled
accordingly to the calendar year such as Winter Bingo
Fun, Gingerbead Houses, and Getting Ready to Babysit.
Programs are also scheduled for the entire family.
7. My husband and I work during the day. Do you have
programs for my toddler in the evening?
Yes, we do. We have an Evening Play Group for
ages 18-35 months with a parent/caregiver.
Tot's Night Out - For families ages 18 months - 5
years.
8. What programs do you have for children entering
kindergarten in the fall?
Make the First Day A Great Day - For parents of
children entering kindergarten. Parents will be
given last-minute tips to ease the concerns
about your child's first day of kindergarten.
On My Own - For children entering kindergarten.
While parents are attending the above program, their
children will be making their own plans for a great
start in school.
9. Do you have any programs for children entering
middle school?
Making the Most of Middle School -
For parents of new 6th graders. Learn how to
prepare and support your child in this all-important
transitions and beyond.
