Sanborn Digital Maps of New York State
Sanborn Fire Insurance maps were detailed property and land-use records for many U.S. towns and cities produced from 1867-1970. The maps can provide a wealth of information, such as building outline, size and shape, construction materials, height, building use, street and sidewalk widths, boundaries and house numbers. Commercial and industrial buildings often have ownership and land-use listings. Maps are available for Patchogue Village for 1884, 1891, 1897,1902, 1910, 1916, 1926 and select maps from 1926-1947. Maps are also available for Bayport, Bellport, Sayville, and other communities in New York State for select years. Each year available will have an index street key to tell you which map sheet(s) the address you want is on. Worth viewing and printing out for reference is the "Sanborn Maps Legend" located in the upper-left corner of the main screen. This contains a legend of symbols and markings common to all Sanborn maps. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view the maps.
