Sounds Great! How Can I Try it?
It's easy! Just logon to Job & Career Accelerator from home for Pat-Med residents OR from inside the library.
If you're at home, you will first need to enter your Patchogue-Medford Library barcode or your username and your password
If you do not have a Password yet, you can create one here
Once you have logged in to the database, you will need to set up a separate username and password with Job & Career Accelerator to allow you to keep track of and access your job searches through the My Accelerator dashboard.
If you already have used the library's LearningExpressLibrary service, you may logon to Job & Career Accelerator with the same username and password. Returning Users should enter their information in the space provided. If it is your first time using Job & Career Accelerator, please click on the New User link. All that is required to establish a Job & Career Accelerator account is to make up a username and password. No physical or email address is required.
Before you login, you can view the Getting Started tutorial. You do not need to be registered to watch this. It provides a good overview of the program.

GET STARTED
The first step in using Job & Career Accelerator is to complete the Personal Profile and the Occupation Matcher. Both of these steps are optional, but they can save time during future sessions.
Completing the Personal Profile allows you to enter your basic contact information and save it for future use. It can be a time saver if you later choose to create resumes and cover letters.
The Occupation Matcher is a questionnaire designed to determine your work-related interests. While it is 180 questions in length, it can be very useful in helping someone new to the job search to determine where their interests may lie, and it can help suggest possible careers and occupations to explore that you might not of thought of before.

EXPLORE OCCUPATIONS
You can find background information on over 1,000 careers and occupations using Job & Career Accelerator. Included is salary information and projected demand for the occupation in the future. You can explore occupations by name, or browse a list of the occupations in high demand or by occupation group such as health science, marketing and sales, or transportation.
As a plus, Job & Career Accelerator is linked to the library's LearningExpressLibrary subscription, so if there are any practice tests or skill sets that can help you prepare for an occupation, you will have seamless access to them in the My Accelerator Dashboard.
The screen shot below shows the information available for the career of physician assistant. Included with each occupation is the average salary for the United States as a whole, as well as each state. Another great feature is the projected growth rate for that occupation, allowing you to see if it there are likely to be opportunities in the filed in the future. Clicking on the tabs to the left will provide more information, including what education and training is required and related occupations that you may also consider. At any time you can click the Save button to post the information to your My Accelerator Dashboard, so it will be easily accessible the next time you login. You can also click the View Available Jobs link to see current job listings for that occupation.

Search for Jobs
Remember, that there are over 5 million job listings in the Job & Career Accelerator database. These listings are continually updated.
There are two ways to search for jobs. A Basic Job Search allows you to search by keyword, such as a job title, skill required, or company name, and then limit the search to a particular location.
The Advanced Job Search allows for more keyword search options, as well as the ability to limit to a set distance from a place, anywhere from 5 to 50 miles. The advanced search lets you filter job
listings by using filters for categories such as education level, experience required, company size and revenue, and job type (eg. full-time, part-time, temporary, etc.)
All job search results can be easily saved to your My Accelerator Dashboard for easy retrieval at a later time.
TOOLS TO GET HIRED
This section allows you to easily create professional-looking, customizable resumes and cover letters. You can also receive help preparing for interviews, including sample questions you may be asked, and questions you should be asking of prospective employers.
The sample screen from the Resume Builder section of Job & Career Accelerator, shows how easy it is to build a resume step-by-step using the easy-to-use forms. Once you have entered your basic information, you can easily use it to create targeted resumes and cover letters, specific to each job to which you are applying.
MY ACCELERATOR DASHBOARD
The dashboard allows you to easily see all your progress in Job & Career Accelerator. At a glance you can see all of your saved occupations, resumes, and more. This lets you easily keep track of all your job searches, targeted resumes and cover letters, and any occupations you are exploring. The My Accelerator Dashboard is always accessible whenever you are logged in, which helps to make Job & Career Accelerator your one-stop choice for tracking a successful job search.

Job & Career Accelerator is available to everyone from within the library, and may be accessed from home by Patchogue-Medford residents with their library card barcode and PIN/password.
