Index To Birth, Marriage And Death Announcements In The Long Island Advance
INDEX TO BIRTH, MARRIAGE AND DEATH ANNOUNCEMENTS IN THE LONG ISLAND ADVANCE
edited by Toni Raptis
The Long Island Advance, historically known as The Advance and The Patchogue Advance, is a weekly newspaper established in 1871. In its early years, the newspaper covered news for much of Suffolk County.
Volunteers from the Patchogue-Medford Library Genealogy Research Group have undertaken the enormous task of extracting birth, marriage, and death announcements from The Long Island Advance for the purposes of creating an online index. Credit for this database goes to Diana Erickson, Gloria Fleming, Dolores Frank, Charles Pilger and Debbie. Our volunteers have extracted these announcements for the years 1879 to 1924. This is a work in progress. To date, names entered online extend from 1879 to 1924.
The Long Island Advance is available on microfilm from 1879 to the present in the Periodicals Plus room. A current online version of The Long Island Advance can be viewed at: http://www.longislandadvance.net.
Viewers can read obituaries on this website from November 2006 to the present.
