Description: Searchable database of full text obituaries and death notices from over 500 American newspapers.
Full Text: All obituaries are full text.
Coverage: Majority of newspapers indexed are from the 1990s forward. Some titles date back to the late 1980s.

The Italian Genealogy Group has indexed naturalization records, military naturalizations and vital records for the New York area.

Long Island Forum Index
Description: An electronic version of the print indexes of the Long Island Forum journal of Long Island history.
Full Text: The library maintains a full set of the print journal in our Local History Room.
Coverage: 1938 to the present.
Updates: As new index volumes are received.

New England Ancestors.org
Description: The New England Historic Genealogical Society homepage features a wealth of online information. Databases are listed alphabetically, by record type, and by region. Included among their many records are probate, school, land, town, cemetery and vital records for the New England states, New York, Canada, England and Ireland. Over 2,200 genealogy-related databases are searchable through this site.

Description: Searchable database specializing in records for Britain, Ireland, and Scotland. The database has indexed wills, court, probate, apprenticeship, birth, marriage, burials and census records dating back to the 1500s.

Description: An index to genealogy materials at the Patchogue-Medford Library.
Updates: Whenever new genealogy materials are added to the collection.

Research Libraries Group Union Catalog - Archival MARC Cataloging File Search Form - Soft Reference
A nationwide database of archival and specialized historical collection descriptions. It's the only place where you can research entire New York State historical documents inventory for Nassau and Suffolk Counties, which were never printed. It lists the name of the collection, its author or compiler, a description of its contents or of sub-collections, is rich in its list of subject headings, many of which are personal and family names, and usually identifies the holding institution and its general location. In many cases a sub-collection is given its own seperate entry, so searching by institution can bring its own, added rewards. A rich, little known resource for genealogical and historical research.

Sanborn Digital Maps of New York State
Description: Sanborn Fire Insurance maps were detailed property and land-use records for many U.S. towns and cities produced from 1867-1970. The maps can provide a wealth of information, such as building outline, size and shape, construction materials, height, building use, street and sidewalk widths, boundaries and house numbers. Commercial and industrial buildings often have ownership and land-use listings. Maps are available for Patchogue Village for 1884, 1891, 1897,1902, 1910, 1916, 1926 and select maps from 1926-1947. Maps are also available for Bayport, Bellport, Sayville, and other communities in New York State for select years. Each year available will have an index street key to tell you which map sheet(s) the address you want is on. Worth viewing and printing out for reference is the "Sanborn Maps Legend" located in the upper-left corner of the main screen. This contains a legend of symbols and markings common to all Sanborn maps. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view the maps.

Description: A collection of selected historic newspapers from Suffolk County, NY. 6 papers are currently included, covering approximately 100 years.
Updates: Plans are to eventually include upwards of 28 papers from 1791 forward.

This database contains information about the millions of immigrants who came to New York from 1830 to 1892.

Finding Passenger Lists and Immigration Records 1820-1940s
Resources for finding passenger arrival records for New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Galveston, Texas and other ports.

Ellis Island: American Family Immigration History Center
This database contains information about the over 17 million immigrants who passed through Ellis Island from 1892-1924. The information gathered includes the immigrants name, port of origin, arrival date, age, gender, nationality of the immigrant and the name of the ship they arrived in.

Immigrant Ancestors Project
Emigrant records created in the country of departure. This is an ongoing project of Brigham Young University.

American Battle Monuments Commission
The American Battle Monuments Commission was established by Congress to honor the American Armed Forces. Clicking on "ABMC Cemeteries" links the viewer to photographs and the history of 24 permanent American burial grounds on foreign soil, holding 124,917 U.S. war dead. A list of casualties can be found for World War I, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War by clicking on "War Dead."
