Primary Documents in American History
The Library of Congress offers lists of important documents from American history. "For each item on these lists there is a page with background information about the document, a list of links to digital materials concerning that document from the Library's site and elsewhere, and bibliographies both for general readers and for younger readers."

This Day in History
The History Channel offers this entertaining and informative site of historical happenings for each day. The site also organizes the events by topic, so for any given day you can find out what happened in crime history, literary history, Civil War history and more. Users can also enter their birthdate or any other date and find out what happened on that day.

Timeline Science
A timeline history of science over the past millenium. A background "setting" is offered for each time period to place scientific discoveries of the era in context. Some entries have links to more in-depth information on a topic or scientist.

Year by Year: 1900-2006
This site lists major events and happenings for each year of the 20th and 21st centuries. There are also news quizzes available. Special features include timelines of world history, American music, and fashion.
